There is a wide and varied choice of marks to fish that are in easy distance of the slipway for most small fast fishing boats.
The boat angler is spoilt for choice of fishing areas, wether you head west towards Herne Bay and the Woolpack, north into the deeper channels or east towards North Foreland and the English Channel.
Good fish can be caught within sight of the slipway at certain times of the year and there is good fishing from rough ground and sandbanks just 3 miles steam from Minnis Bay.
Most fishing is carried out at anchor with uptiding being common practice, however downtiding can be just as effective. Species include Cod, whiting, Lesser Spotted Dogfish, Smoothhound, pouting, Thornback Ray, Bass, Dabs, Tope and Mackerel.
The Margate Sands is a great area for new comers and the novice boat angler to start as it is within easy reach of the slipway and usually provides good sport in the spring and summertime.
Most anglers concentrate their efforts on the many sandbanks that are in close proximity either drifting or anchored for Bass.
